Really enjoy the morning Turbo sessions. There’s no way I’d push myself to that extent on the turbo at home. It’s a great start to the day and my cycling has improved immensely

Describe Coach Cillian in three words:
1. Positive
2. Balanced
3. Effective
In the last year, Cillian brought me from having never swam more than 100m in open water, no more than 400m in the pool at any one time, and zero cycling experience to finishing my first Ironman in Austria in July 2018 in under 11 hours.
I worked with Cillian for 9 months. There was a very simple, yet comprehensive plan put in place, all with aim of finishing below the 11 hour mark at Austria.
We worked through the phases, building my base over the winter on the running and cycling, getting time in the water. Spring and early summer brought the fine tuning and races before the big day, which he was there for and shouted me around the entire way, how many coaches would do that?
Coaching Style
Cillian brings a balanced approach to his coaching, utilising the latest sports science to influence his methods while also relying his own experience, common sense, and my own feedback to tweak things along the way when required.
Athlete Management
He keeps you grounded when things get busy outside of your triathlon life, is very accessible and friendly, but also holds you to account when required.
On a persona level, he’s a very likable person and top individual, practices what he preaches and is someone I can honestly say I try to emulate in my approach to life and athletic endeavours.
Injury Prevention
Staying healthy and injury free is large part of any serious athletic goal. Cillian brings an abundance of tools and experience to bear on this. His physio qualifications and skillswasan invaluable benefit to me during the months, preventing niggles and imbalances from progressing beyond just that. I did not have an injury during the nine months that prevented me from training any more than a week.
I could go on forever, there are so many positive facets to his coaching abilities and personality.
If in doubt, doubt no more. Put in the hard work, follow the plan, set your goal over a reasonable timeline and Cillian will get you to where you want to be.

One of the most important factors in being coached is trusting the person coaching you, I can’t say enough about how great Cillian is as a coach, a person, and he’s also a great Physiotherapist. Having been constantly injured over the years Cillian has designed my training to fit in with my physical abilities and work life and through teaching me better swim and bike form.
The sessions Cillian provides are challenging but I have seen significant improvements in all three sports, but especially in biking. On the bike Cillian has thought me one valuable lesson, quantity is not the key to performance; quality is. I have replaced my long 5/6 hourr bike rides to a max of 4 hour (power based) turbos. I was a bit skeptical at first but recently rode my fastest ever Iron Man bike split and was fresh off the bike although illness got me on the run leg I felt my run was in the best place ever. This was an area I had struggled with over the years.
The lesson being that a 4 hour power based session on the turbo, without traffic and coffee, is worth well over 5 hours on the road in terms of training effect and when the nights are drawing in it makes turbo training a crucial element of your training for most athletes.
In terms of my run, I feel stronger and faster than I have ever been again due to the tailored sessions from Cillian and the assistance of the wonderful Aisling Coppinger another outstanding coach and the toughest runner I have ever encountered.
Cillian’s positive and generous nature is outstanding. And I look forward to working with him for years to come.

I began working with Cillian around August 2018. At the time I was looking for a personal best formarathon time. Within the space of 3 months...I achieved that goal. Cillian was aware I had already done a few marathons so he taught me about heart rate zones and running pace zones. This really helped build up my engine and on the day I finished my race happy that I had achieved a PB. I didn't tell Cillian but during this time I monitored how well we got on and whether he would be the ideal coach to get me through my first Ironman..to be fair it was the best decision I ever made to stay with Cillian and have him coach me over the last year.
Cillian set out a specific Ironman Training schedule for me using training peaks.
I have experienced him to be committed to me and my personal goals.
Through the last year Cillian has been able to offer me a unique balance of careful listening with sharing his wealth of experience and coaching. Cillian was very flexible with me and adapted his coaching towards my personality and my time restraints. I became very familiar with training peaks and power turbo sessions and made lots of new friends.
The coaching for the Ironman has helped me in many wonderful ways. I definitely would recommend Cillian he is patient, he truly listens to what you want to achieve and guides you to make your own decisions and he is also good fun.
What is most unique about Cillian is that he treats everyone the same and he is very modest in his own achievements...whether you need swim, run, bike coaching this is your coach...If I make any more plans I will be contacting Cillian first to make the plan. Thanks again Cillian :)
